From his Blue Period in the early 1900s up until his final years in Mougins, Picasso used notebooks as if they were private diaries. In their pages, he compulsively worked out problems and pushed his process. He studied arabesques and acrobats, analyzed anatomy, played with pastels, and made drafts of his most famous Cubist compositions. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death, this exhibition focuses on Picasso’s graphic work. Don’t miss his studies for the monumental mid–50s series “Les Femmes d’Algers.” —Elena Clavarino
