Peter the Great, ruler of the Russian Empire from 1682 to 1725, was known for his extensive reforms of the army, the navy, and the Russian economy. But many don’t know that Peter the Great was also a patron of the arts. The pieces he commissioned and collected reflect his refined world view and boundless knowledge. Approximately 200 pieces, some on loan from Germany, Holland, and the U.K., shed light on his Imperial eye and mind. —E.C.
