Since its founding in 2004, Performa, an organization committed to supporting performance art, has presented some of the world’s most ambitious art pieces at its biennale—the only biennale to focus exclusively on interdisciplinary and live works. The commissioned artists range from painters and sculptors to musicians and dancers, and their works for Performa unfailingly result in surprising and innovative creations. To fundraise for the 2021 show, which will take place across New York City, the group hosts its first-ever telethon, dedicated to Nam June Paik. The eight-hour live-streamed event features archival footage of past Performa performances as well as new works created for the show. Expect appearances from Laurie Anderson, Rufus Wainwright, Yvonne Rainer, and more. A store with specially made goods, ranging from housewares to apparel, offers designs by Cindy Sherman and Laurie Simmons, plus other names from the worlds of design and art. —C.J.F.
