Set in 1991 during the fall of the Soviet Union, this new play by Peter Morgan (The Crown) looks at the rise of the Russian oligarch class. The story centers on Boris Berezovsky, a mathematician turned businessman who partakes in the post-fall power grab for previously state-owned industries, such as steel and oil. Played by the excellent Tom Hollander, Berezovsky goes from close friend of Vladimir Putin (Will Keen) to enemy. The backdrop of Putin’s political ascent is a satisfyingly gaudy set designed by the German stage designer Miriam Buether. —Jensen Davis
