When Partnership premiered in 1917, The Stage praised it as, “One of the very few intelligent and, therefore, really interesting plays of the moment.” Written by the English playwright Elizabeth Baker, the comedy was a shockingly modern take on women’s professional lives. The main character is Kate Rolling, an ambitious English woman who owns a small shop in Brighton. When the man who owns the biggest, most profitable store in town suggests a merger—but only if Kate marries him—she immediately says yes. Yet the intersection of business and pleasure proves difficult. Partnership is the third and final Baker revival in Mint Theater Company’s “Meet Miss Baker” series, which began in 2019. —Jensen Davis
