All artists are to some degree outsiders. Outsider art, however, is a label used for work by artists who are self-taught (outsider art can cross over with folk art) or who work completely outside the system—think of Emily Dickinson writing some of the greatest poems of the 19th century at her tiny table, and seeing less than 12 published in her lifetime. This year’s fair includes work from over 60 galleries. —L.J.
