The Shed’s design made waves even in hard-to-impress New York City. It sports a gigantic retractable shell situated on six enormous wheels; when the shell is pulled back, an open-air, accessible-to-all plaza is revealed. A cultural venue located in Hudson Yards, the Shed, designed by lead architect Diller Scofidio + Renfro, commissions original works of art and performance across all disciplines. “Open Call” displays new work from 52 New York-based emerging artists and collectives; tickets are free, but reservations are required. —J.V.
