Let there be lights! A contemporary concert hall must be all things to all people. To demonstrate versatility (and showmanship), Jaap van Zweden and the New York Philharmonic cut loose with the premiere of Marcos Balter’s Oyá, “a fantasia of sound and light conceived to celebrate the revitalized David Geffen Hall.” Revitalized and at long last acoustically upgraded—at least that’s the expectation. Splashy favorites by Respighi, John Adams, and Tania León will test the new sound. —Matthew Gurewitsch
