This fall the New York Film Festival returns to Lincoln Center for its 62nd season, and as always, the schedule is something to behold. A few must-see options include Nickel Boys, the director RaMell Ross’s adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s 2019 novel; The Room Next Door, about a best-selling writer (Julianne Moore) who renews her relationship with a long-lost friend (Tilda Swinton); and All We Imagine as Light, a drama that explores the lives of three working-class women in Mumbai. The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody and Guy Pearce, and Caught by the Tides, a Chinese film by Jia Zhangke, should also be on your dance card. Notable talks at the festival include one by Zhangke himself, as well as lectures from the author Sigrid Nunez and the directors Alex Ross Perry and Andrei Ujică. There’s almost too much worthwhile to choose from—but that’s a good problem for a film festival. —Jack Sullivan
