When does technology become art? For this blockbuster exhibition, the British architect Norman Foster—a man who loves cars and also collects them—has curated a selection of 38 automobiles, dating from the early 1900s to the year 2000. When they were created, each was considered revolutionary. The cars are placed alongside works of art and sculpture, photographs and ephemera. There’s even a vitrine of toy cars through the decades. “These are extraordinarily beautiful objects,” Foster has said of the automobiles in the show, “and they coexist at an equal level with great works of art and architecture.” —Elena Clavarino
