Molly Greene: Splitting

Apr 8 – May 16, 2021
368 Broadway #417, New York, NY 10013, United States

The Los Angeles-based artist Molly Greene grew up in rural Vermont, surrounded by thick woods. After graduate school, she took on academics, studying science, technology, and gender philosophy, subjects that led her to question the nuances of gender disparity. Greene brings elements of her past into her precise paintings, and uses botanical imagery to confront societal notions of femininity. The plants she paints are mirrored, seemingly symmetrical. Often their shapes point to darker science, the process of dissection or the splitting of an atom. This is Greene’s first New York exhibition. —E.C.
