Miradas de Mujeres means “Women’s Gaze.” In this instance, the Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave, who also happens to be a countess by marriage, has gazed upon the work and life of Frida Kahlo. Born in 1946 in Brussels, de Borchgrave studied art and then went to work in advertising, fashion, and interior design. A trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1994 inspired a new path. She began making period clothes of painted paper. Here, in paper and paint, de Borchgrave has recreated the world transformed by Kahlo’s gaze—her colorful dresses, furniture, plants, home. Amazing! —Laura Jacobs
