Meriem Bennani was born in Morocco’s capital, Rabat, in 1988. In 2012, she moved to New York City to study art at Cooper Union, and then headed to Paris for a master’s degree. Living in the West, Bennani began to reflect on Moroccan life and its postcolonial history. How was her culture perceived abroad? And how did the Internet shape that perception? She began combining fragments of the digital world—documentary film, telenovelas, music videos, and animated cartoons—into short films that both tease and critique the digital age. In Milan, Bennani unveils her latest site-specific installation as well as a new film, For My Best Family, co-directed by Orian Barki. —Elena Clavarino
