In honor of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Musée du Luxembourg turns to sports. Curated by the German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, “Match: Design & Sport” explores the fundamental relationship between design and movement. “When I was a kid, I was obsessed with looking at sports equipment and studied catalogues about it for days,” Grcic said recently. The exhibition goes beyond aesthetics to reveal how advancing technology in uniforms and equipment helped to protect athletes and how new inventions may enhance performance. Grcic pulled together more than 150 objects, think tennis rackets, sleeping bags, POC helmets, and sports wheelchairs, while including new research around robots and artificial intelligence. The exhibition is part of the “Olympiade Culturelle,” a program of multidisciplinary events, hundreds of them, that runs through September 8, 2024. —Jeanne Malle
