The word “manosphere”—that toxic archipelago of online spaces where a swaggering, misogynistic masculinity has found its loudest audience—has rarely been subjected to serious examination. This exhibition changes that, taking the term as a point of departure and asking a deceptively simple question: If masculinity itself were a Pandora’s box, what would we find inside it? The answers, which come from collection works, loans, and new commissions by Lucy McKenzie, Eduardo Paolozzi, Salman Toor, and Bruno Zhu, among others, turn out to be varied and surprising. —Elena Clavarino
