Malory Towers

July 18 – Oct 5, 2019

“My adaptation of Malory Towers is dedicated to the generation of women who taught in schools in that period,” says Emma Rice, who founded the Wise Children company a few years ago after serving as artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe, in London. “With lives shaped by the savagery of two wars, these teachers devoted themselves to the education and nurture of other women.” The joyous musical that Rice has made of Enid Blyton’s boarding-school series tours the U.K. through September, and makes its final stop at the Oxford Playhouse, from October 1 to 5. —J.V.
