The landing page for the Dresden Music Festival Web site lists some crazy stats: in 31 days, the general manager and master cellist Jan Vogler is presenting some 1,500 international artists in 25 “outstanding” venues. Vogler is always worth hearing, but his duties in this context are mainly administrative. The concert we’d most like to catch showcases the singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo, of Benin and France, in classic French chansons of Brel, Gainsbourg, Piaf et al. with the superb French pianist Alexandre Tharaud, whose 25+ solo albums spanning the classical canon have garnered innumerable awards. —Matthew Gurewitsch
