Luke Ching Chin Wai: Liquefied Sunshine | South Ho Siu Nam: Force Majeure

Sept 10 – Nov 2, 2019
15/F, Po Chai Industrial Building, 28 Wong Chuk Hang Rd, Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong

Typhoons may soon be coming for us all, but for Hong Kong artists Luke Ching Chin Wai and South Ho Siu Nam they have long been a reality—with a twist. At Blindspot Gallery, Ching’s abstract pieces represent the sociopolitical turmoil that boomerangs between Taiwan and Hong Kong. Sudden rushes of water gush down from installations, postcards of sunny landscapes are covered in colored lines. Ho’s photographs tell the story of the destructive Typhoon Mangkhut. Surprisingly though, the overarching message isn’t negative. The artists are telling us that sometimes we need the rain. —E.C.
