Luca Frei: Process Charts Play

Dec 4, 2019 – Jan 25, 2020
Schöneberger Ufer 65, 10785 Berlin, Germany

Luca Frei’s work is both playful and conceptual. The title of his installation Circular arrangement for sitting, standing, and dancing sounds like it could be a Merce Cunningham dance. Its eight seat-sized geometric shapes, each in a bold preschool color, suggest a Pop-art support group. Other pieces in this exhibition takes inspiration from the humble flowchart, specifically the method invented by Lillian and Frank Gilbreth in 1921. The curves and lines of these climbing, dropping trajectories are Frei’s raw material, and the symbolic starting point for the paintings and sculptures in his show. —L.J.
