In the case of Lisa Ponti, late daughter of the architect Gio Ponti, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Ponti was a critic, editor, and artist, and moved within a circle of friends that included Alghiero Boetti, Emilio Prini, and Mario and Marisa Merz. It was only in the 1990s, however, when she was in her 70s, that Ponti began to publicly show her drawings—slim, whimsical lines (sometimes accompanied by found objects) executed on A4-sized paper. The titles of her pieces frequently and poetically found themselves “drifting into her drawings and playing with the images,” says the Ortuzar Projects director, Kari Rittenbach. This exhibition, Ponti’s first in the U.S., presents 50 enchanting works on paper. —E.C.
