When Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo first appeared on the horizon, in 1974, there were those who filed it under Camp, Lampoon, and Satire. But this troupe of male ballerinas was also Analytical, Insightful, and Loving. Certainly the 70s—that great decade of the dance boom—was a perfect time to launch the comic company. Quality has kept it going strong. Les Ballets Trockadero comes to the Joyce this season with an especially classical repertory. Program A includes Giselle Act Two and Program B, Swan Lake Act Two—acts that contain some of ballet’s most revered Romantic choreography, which make them sitting ducks for Trock-style irreverence and exuberance. Program A also contains the New York premiere of Durante Verzola’s Symphony, inspired by George Balanchine’s Symphony in C, while “B” rounds out with Raymonda’s Wedding and the wonderful Yes, Virginia, Another Piano Ballet by Peter Anastos. —Laura Jacobs
