Kent Nagano, conductor emeritus of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, and Fred Pellerin, the award-winning Quebecois folksinger and storyteller, team up for the latest in their ongoing series of Christmas specials. Once again, with first-time audiences very much in mind, Nagano has stitched together a classical playlist as the frame for one of Pellerin’s tried-and-true slices of fact-based magic realism. Prepare to be whisked away to the post office of Pellerin’s native Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, where the magnificent Madame Alice Lavergne superintends not only communications between the village and the outside world—but even mediates with the beyond! Composers at the seance include Debussy, Prokofiev, Mozart, Bartók, and many more. —M.G.
