“I invent nothing,” the Belgian painter Kristof Santy has said of his work, “I just rediscover.” Santy often finds his motifs and techniques in folk tales, cookbooks, and the work of Jean Brusselmans, a 20th-century expressionist. For his latest solo show, Santy has found inspiration in recipes from the 1960s and 70s, and also in Marco Ferreri’s 1973 cult film La Grande Bouffe, a satire in which four friends head to a villa for the weekend, planning to eat themselves to death. Paintings of strawberries, blocks of cheese, and toasters are on view. —Jensen Davis
