It’s more than 50 years on and the premise of Jesus Christ Superstar is still wild. Yes, there have been comedic depictions of Jesus, such as Monty Python’s Life of Brian, but the theater duo Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice took it to another level with their rock opera, its focus the last days of Jesus’s life. Judas, Mary Magdalene, the disciples, and King Herod are all part of the show. In this production, directed by Paul Hart, 17 actors populate the stage before moving to the Watermill Theatre’s gardens for the second half of the show. Michael Kholwadia stars as Jesus, Max Alexander-Taylor plays Judas, and Parisa Shahmir is Mary. —Jeanne Malle
