Jeremy Olson brings back his misfit crew of monsters to riff off the Roman term interregnum—a period of suspension between epochs or successive regimes. “I’m interested in how we as people try to build a life in the future and imagine good things, when things look pretty dark.” Olson builds out his world with large-scale paintings, mixed-media pieces, and sculptures made with 3-D printing. His “monsters” are reservoirs of anxiety, but also “cute and relatable.” Like us, they enjoy throwing parties and chatting away on their cell phones. —Clara Molot
