After a seven-year hiatus, the Vancouver-born artist Jeff Wall resumed his photography practice in 1977 and produced his first backlit transparencies. He composed these works in the manner of other artists—Hokusai, Édouard Manet—but the content was often inspired by life in Vancouver, where nature collides with urbay decay. Almost five decades later, Wall is now considered the founding father of “staged photography.” He is 78 this year, and this exhibition of 55 works is his first solo show in Switzerland. —Elena Clavarino
