It’s 1606 and a plague is ravaging England, but all William Shakespeare can worry about is his writer’s block. Written by the actress and playwright Talene Monahon, Jane Anger portrays Shakespeare (Michael Urie) as a diva driven by a desire for fame. While he tries to write King Lear, his former lover, Jane Anger, is scheming to get him to publish a pamphlet she wrote. The show, which premiered Off Broadway last March, heads to Shakespeare Theatre Company. —Jensen Davis
