Henry Steiner turned 90 this year. He’s Austrian but is known as the “Father of Hong Kong Design.” Steiner moved from New York to Hong Kong in 1961, after accepting a position as design director for The Asia Magazine. When his nine-month contract was up, he chose not to return to America. Instead he set up shop in the harbor city and went on to design logos for IBM, Unilever, Standard Chartered, and other colossal companies. To celebrate Steiner’s birthday, this large exhibition takes in his entire career, focusing on his contributions to the city’s distinctive visual culture. —Elena Clavarino
