Pamela Rosenkranz is more concerned with the neurological responses of a person viewing art than she is with the actual art a person is viewing. The eponymous piece in the Swiss artist’s new show, “Healer,” is a robotic snake that writhes on the ground under green lights. Visitors’ phones trigger the green lights and their electronic signals, and those signals influence the snake’s sidewinding movement. “I wanted the robot to remain recognizably a machine by closer looking at it,” Rosenkranz says, “but at the same time functional and convincing, and slippery in an optically abstract way.” She further tricks perception with reflective aluminum and mirror surfaces, and distorted acrylic paintings of eyes. —J.D.
