Hassan Hajjaj: The Path

July 30 – Nov 1, 2020
16 Narrow Quay, Bristol BS1 4QA, United Kingdom

“I like chaos, I like noise, I like people,” the British-Moroccan photographer Hassan Hajjaj recently told the Financial Times. Hajjaj is known as “the Andy Warhol of Marrakech,” and the dynamism he speaks of finds form in his brash and colorful work. London-based, he combines the cultural symbols of his adopted country with tropes from his home country, often framing his images with rows of brightly-labeled tins (a brand becomes a decorative motif). In this exhibition, three photographic series are on display: women in Louis Vuitton face veils, British television personalities, and portraiture and landscapes. —E.C.
