Hannah Traore, just 26, is opening her first gallery. “I have always had so many ideas and such a strong vision of what I wanted to do,” Traore recently told The Art Newspaper. “You can’t really do those things in someone else’s space.” Traore’s eponymous gallery will focus on “artists who have traditionally been left out of art spaces”—meaning artists of color and Indigenous people. Two shows inaugurate the gallery. In the installation space, the Moroccan photographer Hassan Hajjaj has re-created his Marrakech design store and decorated it with art that inspires him. In the exhibition space, “Hues,” a group show featuring artists like Wendy Red Star and Misha Japanwala, considers the formal features of color in art. —J.D.
