He did it all, Gustave Doré—graphic novelist, caricaturist, illustrator, painter, and sculptor. His engravings of Perrault’s fairy tales, Dante’s Inferno, and the Bible are indelible images that live in our mind’s eye today, part of a collective visual history. This virtual exhibition explores the great artist’s work in different mediums, including his fascination with death, the afterlife, and, strangely enough, traveling entertainers. —E.C.
