The German artist Gregor Hildebrandt uses vinyl records and cassette tapes to create his collages and architectonic landscapes. They become, he explains, “a memorial to different songs that are important to me.” Hildebrandt is no stranger to the music world. He worked in the industry for 15 years; after hours he would peruse music shops, browsing albums and new videos. Hildebrandt later realized that his stacks of collectibles could become repurposed: he started assembling them into minimalist art. This exhibition uses a verse from the song “Dolores” as its title, and refers to elements of the song. The forest, for example, takes the form of gargoyle-like trees, constructed out of compression-molded records. —Elena Clavarino
