“Elegance is not about being noticed,” said Giorgio Armani, “it’s about being remembered.” Armani, who died on September 4, 2025, at 91, came to define the style of his city: dark blue suits, a gray palette, and a Milanese respect for the understated. In Brera, an artistic neighborhood in Milan, he had a home on Via Borgonuovo, the Armani Hotel, the Armani Caffè, the Armani boutique, and a billboard on Via Broletto—large but never overbearing. Furthermore, an exhibition of 120 Armani designs is now on at the Pinacoteca di Brera, a museum in the heart of the neighborhood. Organized by the master before his death, it marks the brand’s 50th anniversary. Armani’s dresses float among works by Raphael and Caravaggio, subtle pairings that feel like a fitting farewell to King Giorgio. —Elena Clavarino
