Francisco Toledo: Paper Fables

Francisco Toledo, Les Animaux, 1969.

May 5 – Aug 21, 2022
140 N Main Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701

The Mexican artist Francisco Toledo, who died in 2019, was part of the country’s Breakaway Generation, youths who rebelled against the constraints of postwar traditional painting. At just 19, he received a solo exhibition in Fort Worth. Hailed as one of Mexico’s most important contemporary artists, Toledo worked in many mediums. His art is about Oaxaca, its flora and fauna, its ancient fables and tales. This exhibition presents works on paper from the 1960s and 70s. —Elena Clavarino
