As part of “Fraenkel Gallery Presents,” the Metrograph’s ongoing series created in collaboration with the renowned San Francisco gallery and artists such as Carrie Mae Weems, this special event looks at the enduring relationship between photography, contemporary art, and cinema. The film Weems has chosen for exploration is No Country for Old Men (2007), the Coen Brothers’ haunting adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel. Celebrated for Javier Bardem’s chilling portrayal of Anton Chigurh (“What’s the most you ever lost on a coin toss?”), it also stars Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, and Kelly Macdonald. Equal parts brutal western and psychological thriller, the movie contains some of the most striking imagery in contemporary cinema. —Carolina de Armas
