Feminine Power: The Divine to the Demonic

Kaushik Ghosh, Kali Murti, 2022.

May 19 – Nov 25, 2022
Great Russell St, Bloomsbury, London WC1B 3DG, UK

Female goddesses are all around us. There are those classics of the Classics—Aphrodite, Artemis, Athena, etc.—and characters from Eastern mythology, such as the supreme Hindu goddess Kali, who carries a severed head and a bloodied sword. These enduring ancient images remerge over and over again in novels, pop culture, and fashion. Beyoncé, for instance, emulated the Winged Victory at the Louvre in one of her music videos with Jay-Z. This exhibition gives center stage to the saints, demons, and goddesses that have been both revered and feared for 5,000 years. —Elena Clavarino
