Nancy Fouts was known for the wry humor and sharp wit she brought to both life and art. She once said, “Black humor can create an alternative way of seeing things, and is an accessible way to tackle controversial themes.” Repurposing a range of objects—from religious artifacts to taxidermy, matchboxes to Old Master imagery—Fouts created surreal sculptures with a light spirit. This is the first exhibition of her work since her death in April 2019. —E.C.
