The Spanish artist Escif, who primarily functions as a Banksy-esque street artist, has taken a critical pivot in “Está Lloviendo.” Escif, who was born in Valencia, uses simple, recognizable motifs and muted colors to transform buildings all over Europe. In this exhibition, however, instead of painting on buildings and adding to the environment around him, Escif has created his own environment. Rubble and rocks are presented in coagulations, each painted with delicate, beautiful flowers. We are invited into a world of Escif’s own making, one that emphasizes the triumph of nature over man-made impositions. —Thalia Bonas
