Since the Taliban’s seizure of Kabul two years ago, Afghanistan has made hundreds of news headlines. Video footage of citizens crowding the airport, even clinging to the wings of evacuation planes, haunt collective memory. Westerners have since cried out about human-rights violations, but what about America’s 20 years of occupation? Through art and archival matierals, this exhibition chronicles the impact of the long imperial power struggle in Afghanistan. Loss, displacement, permanence, and belonging are its poignant themes. —Elena Clavarino
