The bond between identical twins is possibly the most intimate of all human relationships. So what does that bond bring to art created by twins who work together? “El Monte” is the first collaboration between the photography duo Elliot and Erick Jiménez, who are twins. It explores their relationship with Lucumí, an Afro-Caribbean religion that emerged in Cuba. The exhibition, housed in Miami’s Pérez Art Museum, is centered around a large structure that evokes both a church and a forest, intended to symbolize the womb that the twins once shared. The show consists mostly of photographs, but also includes sculptural elements that evoke the wonder, mystery, and self-reflection that were part of a bicultural, Cuban-American upbringing. —Alice Browne
