When Elf came out in 2003, it joined Miracle on 34th Street and Home Alone 2 as a classic New York Christmas movie. Seven years later, Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan brought a musical adaptation of the slapstick comedy to Broadway. This holiday season, Elf: The Musical returns for its third Broadway run, with Tony-nominated Greg Henson at the helm as Buddy (Will Ferrell in the film), the goofball human elf who travels to New York for the first time to meet his biological father. Expect a magical combination of jaunty musical numbers, falling snow, hot dog carts, and Sean Astin (Samwise in The Lord of the Rings trilogy), who makes his Broadway debut as Santa in this feel-good family production. —Paulina Prosnitz
