“You see this badly done on purpose,” Ed Ruscha once said of one of his works, “but the badly-done-on-purpose thing was done so well that it just becomes, let’s say, profound.” Born in Nebraska, but a quintessential West Coast man with a dry sense of humor, Ruscha’s art comments on the decline of language and culture, often with a sense of satire. Though he works in many media, this exhibition celebrates the artist with 56 paintings, works on paper, and prints. —E.C.
