James Rosenquist began his career as a commercial billboard painter before becoming a leading figure in the Pop art movement. So it’s not surprising that the newest Rosenquist exhibition, in Seoul, focuses on his work during Pop’s heyday in the 1960s, including two monumental works from the period—Shadows (1961) and Playmate (1966). Both are quintessential Rosenquist in their large scale and fragmented subjects. Several rarely seen studies are also on view, providing a glimpse into Rosenquist’s artistic process and collage techniques. Look for the way this work fuses vivid color, unique compositional strategies, and references to 1960s politics and culture. —Lucy Horowitz
