Down the Rabbit Hole: JB in JT

Streaming on O-Town House

The artist James Benning usually spends his Christmas holidays at the Joshua Tree home of Julie Ault and Martin Beck, but recently the friends found themselves together for a very different occasion—the coronavirus lockdown. The trio decided it was a perfect time to work on a project conceived during happier days: the plan to transform the house into a pop-up gallery dedicated to Benning’s practice. Makeshift creations, found objects, and art—things bearing the Benning touch and left at the house—were set here and there and photographed, combining to create a fabulous micro-art interior. —E.C.
