David Hockney: The Arrival of Spring, Normandy, 2020

Oct 8, 2021 – Jan 23, 2022
Rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgium

“Do Remember They Can’t Cancel Spring.” This is what David Hockney titled a hopeful bunch of daffodils he drew on his iPad during the pandemic’s fierce first days, and then distributed to friends through email. The British artist spent the spring of 2020, when he’d just moved into an old chateau in Normandy, churning out typically colorful drawings on his iPad, a medium he adopted in 2010. A collection of 116 seasonal works, printed on paper, make up a bright exhibition that betokens the solace one finds in the beauty of nature. As the pandemic continues to disrupt daily life, Hockney reminds us that hope springs eternal. —Sabina Vitale
