“I paint what I like,” David Hockney has said, “when I like, and where I like.” His multifaceted oeuvre supports that statement. Ever since Hockney’s early days in Yorkshire, he has experimented with painting, drawing, printmaking, watercolor, and photography. Born in 1937, a time when homosexuality was still a penal offense, Hockney addresses themes of queerness and eros in his work but with subtlety. Now 86, this exhibition of 140 prints, collages, photographic, and iPad drawings reflect back on his long career. It’s the largest retrospective of his prints in North America to date. —Elena Clavarino
