Through tours and recordings on the ECM label, the Danish String Quartet has gained a passionate international following for its luminescent gravitas, notably in America. The opening recital of a North American tour extending through mid February harks back to a favorite CD of subarctic folksongs in arrangements that touch deep chords without a hint of histrionics. Later stops stateside and in Canada include Vancouver, Seattle, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, La Jolla, Chicago, and a five-concert residency with the complete Beethoven string quartets at Lincoln Center. —M.G.
