Curb Your Enthusiasm, Season 11

Streaming on HBO

In the world of television, double-digit season numbers are the preserve of a sacred few shows whose audiences are as loyal as they are fervid. And in recent history, no show’s fans have been as loyal as Curb Your Enthusiasm’s. So it makes perfect sense that Curb’s creator and frontman, Larry David, would go back on his word and release an 11th season. The latest—which includes the show’s mainstays, from Jeff Garlin and Richard Lewis to J. B. Smoove and Cheryl Hines—draws on what can only be called a vast reservoir of coronavirus-era material. As usual, David’s ability to spin the yarn of everyday life into refined comedy reigns supreme. One scuffle with Seth Rogen could easily serve as an encapsulating explanation of David’s (and Curb’s) success. Rogen accuses David of insulting him some 30-odd times, and David excuses himself in his characteristic defensive bark: “I’m not the everyman.” To which Rogen can only reply, “You are a singular man.” —Nathan King
