“Generally, light is used to reveal something about the object,” says James Turrell. “I use light as the revelation itself.” In 1966, the young artist rented a studio in the former Mendota Hotel in Ocean Park, California, where he began to experiment with light and projectors. The technology has evolved over the course of Turrell’s career, but light remains his primary subject. Recently, he brought the latest LED technology to his continuing use of etched glass. Two new works are now on view at Gagosian, hung together in a custom-built space at the rue de Ponthieu gallery. Come bask in the beautiful light. —Clara Molot
